Cases of international sex trafficking have increased public awareness about human trafficking in the United States, yet many people remain unaware that more U.S. citizens are victims of sex trafficking than are foreign nationals (Hughes, 2007). Recent research suggests that American youths are the most vulnerable to becoming victims of sex trafficking in this country. Since this discovery, experts in the field have begun to refer to this crime against children as “domestic minor sex trafficking,” or DMST (Clawson & Goldblatt Grace, 2007; Shared Hope International, 2007). In this article, current definitions of and statistics related to DMST are presented. Those groups most at risk for becoming DMST victims are identified, as are some of the prevailing reasons that DMST exists. Gaps in services for this population are identified, along with appropriate and distinct roles for social work in addressing this issue. Since then the incidence of child soldiers has proliferated in conflicts around the world: they are cheap, plentiful, expendable, with an incredible capacity, once drugged and brainwashed, for both loyalty and barbarism.

The dilemma of the adult soldier who faces them is poignantly expressed in this book’s title: when children are shooting at you, they are soldiers, but as soon as they are wounded or killed, they are children once again. Believing that not one of us should tolerate a child being used in this fashion, Dallaire has made it his mission to end the use of child soldiers. Where Ishmael Beah’s A Long Way Gone gave us wrenching testimony of the devastating experience of being a child soldier, Dallaire offers intellectually daring and enlightened approaches to the child soldier phenomenon, and insightful, empowering solutions to eradicate it. — $17.99 View in iTunes 74 To Live and to Tell When eleven-year-old Francis Duworko was abducted as a child soldier, he fought for the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy not from his own ambition or interest, but out of fear of being killed and of the fear of displaying cowardice. In To Live and to Tell, Duworko narrates his war-time experiences, describing how he found the strength to put the bad memories behind him and move forward with the goal to help others.

This memoir shares the story of Duworko’s abduction, the two-and-half torturous years he spent with the rebels, his escape to Guinea, and his immigration to Canada in 2005. He also describes how he founded three organizations to help youth recover from the trauma of war. He tells how he refuses to impose the weights of his past upon himself and instead seeks to empower others and make a difference.

To Live and to Tell serves not only to recall Duworko’s experiences, but also to communicate the message that we should leave the past behind and live for today. — $3.99 View in iTunes 75 2010 List of Good Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor — — Free View in iTunes 76 2011 List of Good Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor — — Free View in iTunes 77 2012 List of Goods Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor — — Free View in iTunes 78 Labor Trafficking — — Free View in iTunes 79 (Mis)understanding Human Trafficking — — Free View in iTunes 80 Traffickers Target Refugee Camps — — Free View in iTunes 81 New Roads to Trafficking In remote parts of Southeast Asia new roads are seen as a sign of prosperity. Daniel Appleton, an investigator and researched with “Speak for Freedom” travels Eastern Europe to uncover the trafficking routes, and encounters the plight of the girls. This volume takes a different approach to understanding globalization, showing how through the global sex trade, globalization is embodied and enacted by individuals.

Elina Penttinen illustrates how the global sex industry feeds on complex global flows. Drawing on extensive fieldwork on the trafficking of Russian and Baltic female sex workers, she demonstrates how the embodiment and reiteration of globalization on the bodies of gendered individuals are tied to the larger processes of globalization. Appadurai’s framework of landscapes of globalization is developed into a framework of shadow sexscapes in order to show how the global sex industry feeds on complex global flows and in turn operates as a form of shadow globalization.

Globalization, Prostitution and Sex Trafficking will be of interest to students and researchers of international relations, globalization and gender studies. — $57.99 View in iTunes 127 Trafficking in Persons (U.S. Government) — — Free View in iTunes 128 Slavery and Trafficking Laws — — Free View in iTunes 129 Call and Response (C & R) App — — Free View in iTunes 130 ALOVE Cut it Out — — Free View in iTunes 131 The Human Rights App — — Free View in iTunes 132 Post-Test on Human Trafficking — — Free View in iTunes 133 Pre and Post-Tests Answer Key — — Free View in iTunes 134 Pledge — — Free View in iTunes 135 Pledge Read Aloud — — Free View in iTunes 136 Anti-Trafficking Pledge Slide — — Free View in iTunes 137 What You Can Do — — Free View in iTunes 138 WHAT CAN I DO NOW — — Free View in iTunes 139 OSU Price of Life — — Free View in iTunes 140 Global Report of Trafficking in Persons: Human Trafficking–A Crime That Shames Us All — — Free View in iTunes
